“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

 Join PEN & Donate

PEN Scotland is a non-profit organisation, run and organised entirely by volunteers. Most of our events are free. For those events we do charge for, where possible we aim to subside and reduce barriers to access. We run entirely on the goodwill and generosity of our supporters.

Why should I join PEN Scotland?

As a member-led organisation, PEN Scotland is open to anyone who want to help us realise our values of placing education at the heart of political activity. We are open to anyone who wishes to join our organisation and take part in making decisions about how we take forward our values and ideals.

Being a member of PEN Scotland allows you to:

  • participate in strategic decision-making about our organisation

  • vote in our annual AGM, and

  • stand for election to our Organising Committee.

We do not have a membership fee, but operate a pay-what-you can model of membership. We recommend for waged workers £10 per month.

 Why donate to PEN Scotland?

PEN Scotland tries to operate with minimal running costs, and where possible, make sure that our events take place with minimal barriers to access, particularly cost. That said, we are always willing to accept donations to help us put on more events, to cover the running costs involved with maintaining this website, and further reduce barriers to participating in our events (inc. childcare).
